Everyone Contributes as Women's Basketball Overwhelms Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The story of the season thus far has been the offense for the Blue Streaks.

Before tonight, no team in John Carroll Women's Basketball program history had started off scoring 89+ points in the first three games of the season.

The Blue Streaks rewrote the definition of starting strong tonight, bursting past Westminster College, 94-53, advancing to 3-0 on the season.

Another fun fact: While John Carroll has started off 3-0 on several occasions in program history, never before has JCU opened the year with three consecutive 25+ point victories.

John Carroll burst out of the gates to start, taking advantage of some turnovers. The visitors rolled to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter, 14 of which were scored in the point. Abigail Rosol scored 9 of the 17 points in an impressive showing.

The fun continued in the second quarter, as JCU opened with an 8-2 jaunt. Triples by Carmen Heuker and Ava Ryncarz kept the party rolling. Kaylie McKenney helped JCU dominate in the paint, too, with a pair of late jumpers to set the margin at 41-17 at half.

John Carroll spread the wealth in the third quarter, getting the bench plenty involved, all while continuing to dominate in the paint. That was possible because John Carroll hit a few 3-pointers, including a pair by Ella Neitzel. The visitors led by 28 entering the final quarter.

Nicci Finazzo and Katie Puletti hit a couple deep shots in the final quarter, while plenty of other Blue Streaks got involved. John Carroll scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, 26 by bench players.

It was a full team effort for John Carroll, as every player on the roster saw the court. A total of 15 Blue Streaks tallied points and 13 Blue Streaks hit a shot from the field. Kaylie McKenney topped the team with 15 points, while Abigail Rosol (14), Ella Neitzel (11), and Ava Ryncarz (11) all reached double figures. Carly Perusek notched a career-high 5 assists.

JCU shot 50.8% from the field, scoring 50 points in the paint and 37 points off the fast break.

John Carroll has another road game on tap, but this time a shorter trip. JCU will head to nearby Case Western Reserve on Friday night.
