The Women's Basketball quartet guided the program to new heights

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – A fantastic season has yielded both athletic and academic awards for the John Carroll Women's Basketball program.

This article features an accolade that combines both, in the spirit of a true student-athlete. A quartet of Blue Streaks on the JCU Women's Basketball team achieved both a 3.5 GPA and appeared in 90% of games or started over 67% of JCU games this season.

Carmen Heuker, Kaylie McKenney, Carly Perusek, and Ava Ryncarz have garnered College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. Both McKenney and Perusek are repeat customers.

Kaylie McKenney continued to be a consistently excellent post player for John Carroll this season. The Cincinnati native played in all 31 games, contributing 7.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. The senior also added 47 assists and 28 steals this season. The Biology major previously won CSC's Academic All-District recognition in 2025.

Carly Perusek excelled as JCU's primary post player this year. The Beaumont graduate played all but one game this season, starring with 9.6 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. A complete player, the Willoughby Hills native topped the team in both steals (55) and blocks (17), while adding 73 assists, second on the squad. Like McKenney, Perusek (currently pursuing her Master's in Business Administration) won the CSC accolade last year, as well.

Carmen Heuker started in 31 games this year for the Blue Streaks and became a huge playmaker for the Blue & Gold. The senior guard out of Botkins, Ohio continued her development into a primetime playmaker, finishing third on the team with 66 assists. The do-it-all player notched 4.9 points per game while averaging 24.3 minutes per game. The veteran will graduate in May with her Exercise Science degree.

Ava Ryncarz adds another accolade to this historical season for herself. This past week, Ryncarz was awarded D3hoops.com and WBCA Honorable Mention All-American accolades, as well as All-Region. Throughout this year's season, Ava broke a couple of school records including three pointers made in a single game with 10 and the single season three pointers made with 92. In all 31 games, the Education major was a differencemaker on the court.
