Women's Wrestling Drops Quartet of Matches in Busy Weekend

Talia Mitchell notched a 3-0 record on Saturday.
It was quite the busy weekend for John Carroll Women's Wrestling.

On Friday evening, the Blue Streaks traveled to Lourdes University to take on the Gray Wolves. Then on Saturday, the Blue & Gold headed to Adrian, Michigan for the Adrian Duals. 

The Blue Streaks came up on the short end of four matches. JCU lost to Lourdes, 34-14, on Friday. Then on Saturday, JCU was defeated by Siena Heights University (27-16), Aurora University (27-16), and Frostburg State University (40-10).

To start the weekend, a pair of Blue Streaks provided highlights. Both Bella Cyrkiel and Sumayyah Kemp notched their first wins in John Carroll uniforms.

On Saturday, Talie Mitchell dominated. The sophomore scored a 3-0 record, the lone Blue Streak to be undefeated for the day. Without a doubt, the Olentangy Orange grad is becoming a big part of the John Carroll lineup.

Meredith Milligan also provided a nice bright spot on Saturday. The Delaware, Ohio native tallied the first victory of her collegiate career. The sophomore was injured all last year, so it was definitely nice to see the second-year grappler succeed with a pin win vs. her foe from Frostburg State.

"I'm very happy with the progress of the team," said Head Coach Mark Hawald. "We're making steps and improving as we compete. Our wrestlers will continue to develop and grow over the course of the season. Despite the results, I'm proud of how the ladies represent us on and off the mat." 

Next Up
John Carroll will be on the road again next weekend. The Blue Streaks will head back to Michigan for the Albion Invitational next Sunday.
