Matt Wrather Crowned as an Associated Press Division III All-American

Wrather is JCU's first AP All-American pick since 2018

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Fittingly, John Carroll has an Associated Press All-America for the first time since 2018, also the last time the Blue Streaks made the NCAA Division III Tournament before this season's run.

The Blue Streaks enjoyed a great 2024 campaign, and so the linchpin of the offense is appropriately the recipient of another honor.

Matt Wrather has been selected to the 2024 AP Division III All-America Football Second Team.

The star center is the first Blue Streak to make the AP's All-America squad since tight end Danny Disbrow garnered a spot on the Second Team in 2018.

Wrather helmed an offense that made plenty of noise this season. The Powell, Ohio native helped the ground game carve up opposing defenses, and importantly provided time for Nick Semptimphelter to work his magic in the pocket. JCU stands first in team passing efficiency (198.08) and second in completion percentage (74.8%) in Division III.

The Olentangy Liberty grad graded out well by the coaching staff this season as an individual. In large part, his success stems from his hard work ethic and ability to move defenders in all phases. Wrather allowed just one sack all season.

The honors continue to flow as Wrather's resume grows to a level rarely seen by a Blue Streak offensive lineman. The First Team All-OAC pick became the first JCU offensive lineman to win the OAC's Ken Wable Award twice. Not long after this distinction, Wrather secured All-American status from the AFCA.

After earning First Team All-Region honors from D3football.com, Wrather is a prime candidate for the website's All-America team. D3football will release the full list of honorees on January 2.

In the meantime, Wrather will be traveling during the holiday break. As a member of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Wrather will be heading to New Orleans to be honored at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on January 1.

As for the AP All-American honor, Wrather is the 22nd Blue Streak in program history to make the grad, including just the third offensive lineman.
