Women's Lacrosse Dominates Fighting Muskies at Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Blue Streaks started hot and never stopped as they beat Muskingum by a score of 21-2.

John Carroll Women's Lacrosse picked up its fifth straight victory, advancing to 6-3 on the season.

And importantly, the Blue Streaks stand at 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Anna Spitzer found the net first for the Blue Streaks, leading off a strong first quarter. One of four JCU scorers in the opening quarter, the sophomore led the way with two goals. After the first quarter, the Blue Streaks led 5-0.

Just 13 seconds into the second quarter, Olivia Hanulak found the back of the cage, and managed to stay hot as she found it again on a free position shot a couple of minutes later, as well as near the end of the quarter.

Strong defensive pressure throughout the later stages of the second quarter kept the pressure on even as Muskingum began to find their rhythm. Late second quarter yellow cards proved to not phase the Blue Streaks.

At the half, the Blue Streaks held a dominant advantage, 10-1.

Coming out of the half, Kathleen Cagney continued the trend of early scoring, as she started the second half with a goal under a minute in. Jill McDonnell scored her first career goal on a 100 yard coast to coast goal with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter. Vanessa Stevens also scored two in the quarter as the Blue Streaks remained in control of momentum.

With 15 minutes left to go, the Blue Streaks led 18-1.

Allie Quinn started the fourth quarter scoring with her first career goal as well. Mary Wymard also notched her first collegiate goal midway through the final quarter.

Even as the Blue Streaks began to ease off the accelerator, JCU continued to be aggressive defensively, holding the Muskies to 3 shots in the final quarter.

The final horn confirmed the result as the Blue Streaks wrapped things up, finishing the game with a score of 21-2. With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 6-3.

Anna Spitzer and Olivia Hanulak led the way with four goals each on the day. Spitzer also led the way in assists, shots on goal, and ground balls. Josephine Lawler recorded 4 saves on 5 shots on goal in one half of action, while Olivia Munding and Rachel Kroeger each played a quarter.

The Blue Streaks return to action on April 3 on the road against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
