Back-to-Back: Jill McDonnell Continues Reign as OAC Athlete of the Week

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – For the first time since 2021, John Carroll Women's Lacrosse can claim a back-to-back Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.

For the second straight week, Jill McDonnell is the OAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

McDonnell follows in the footsteps of Colleen Grombala, who won the award in back-to-back weeks in March 2021.

After posting outstanding numbers a week ago, McDonnell did fantastic work on Friday vs. Muskingum. The freshman defender led all players with 5 caused turnovers, adding 3 groundballs. The Hamburg, New York native added a pair of draw controls.

And if that weren't enough, McDonnell aided on offense. The phenom fired home her first collegiate goal, achieving the feat early in the third quarter.

The Biology major was part of a masterful effort by the John Carroll defense vs. Muskingum. The Fighting Muskies managed just two goals, five fewer than their previous season low. The visitors finished just 12-of-29 (41%) on clears, also a season low.

For the season, McDonnell has a team-high 20 caused turnovers, which ranks third in the conference. Another fun fact is that she's one of just 10 players in the conference to score this season on her lone shot attempt (Mary Wymard joins her in this stat after also tallying her career first goal on Friday).

Winners of five straight, the red-hot Blue Streaks are back in action on Wednesday. Kelsey Shewbridge's squad will face off with Baldwin Wallace in a 7 pm rivalry tilt.
