WOOSTER – As the world watched the Master's this weekend, John Carroll Men's Golf competed against premier local teams from Division III.

In a solid showing, the Blue Streaks concluded the weekend at Wooster Country Club with a runner-up effort.

John Carroll carded a final score of 320-312-632 for a second place finish at the Nye Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Wooster. In a field of 11 teams and 59 players, JCU placed four golfers in the top 15.

The conditions were not always easy, as the wind certainly played tricks on the golfers. But overall JCU can be proud of the effort, especially on the second day of action.

Zach Brinks and Austin Malley led the John Carroll contingent through the weekend. Brinks, the ever-smiling senior, opened with a 79 on Saturday before firing up a 77 on Sunday. Meanwhile, Malley began behind with an 80, but revved things up on Sunday with a 76. The identical scores of 156 (+12) tied the two for seventh place.

Wade Boyle and London Hoyser tied each other, as well. Boyle began with an 82 before accumulating a 78 on the second day. Hoyser carded a 79 to help lead JCU on Saturday before dropping back to an 81 on the second day. The two Streaks' scores of 160 (+16) knotted them up at 15th place.

Otterbein won the invitational with a team score of 318-308-626. The Cardinals' Ian Johnston was medalist with a 73-75-148.

The Blue Streaks will experience the fun of hosting next weekend. Mike Moran's men will guide the team into the 2024 Dan Caschera Classic next Sunday and Monday at Sand Ridge Golf Course in Chardon to close out the regular season.
