Women’s Track & Field Takes Major Leap Earning High Finishes And Personal Bests At Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Blue Streaks headed down south to the Wooster Invitational at the College of Wooster for today's competition. 

They have continued to make strides heading into this outdoor season. This is just the beginning for the Blue Streaks as they have developed that momentum heading into the bigger meets in the next few weeks. 

Final Results

The women placed second out of eight teams at today's meet. Ashland took home the win scoring a total of 389.50 points. The Blue Streaks scored 90 points to earn a second place finish overall, followed by the Purple Raiders of Mount Union, who placed third with a total score of 71 points. 

The field events would get the day started for JCU as the freshman from Erie, Pennsylvania Sara Gennsuo would earn herself a personal best of 11.04 meters in the triple jump taking home the win for the Blue Streaks, followed by Tori Miller earning a mark of 10.84 meters placing second. Massey Andrykovitch would place eighth overall with a mark of 9.94 meters. 

In the women's 4 x 100 meter relay, the team consisting of Genevieve Arnold, Mia Scott, Kaleigh McNamara, and Rosie Murray would run 48.78 seconds to place third overall for the team. 

The women's 1500 meter run was an exciting one as six individuals would earn personal bests in the event. Leading the way was senior Claire Eberhardt, who took home the win with a time of 4:39.69, followed by Morgan Edwards placing second overall with a time of 4:41.83. Alyssa Vis would continue her progression as she would place 10th overall, running a time of 4:52.05 to earn a personal best. Cassie Klein (4:56.41), Emma Hvizdos (5:01.78), Carlee Blankenship (5:05.02), and Tori Dunham (5:06.49) would all tally personal bests in the 1500 meters as well. 

Senior Genevieve Arnold would come back for the 100 meter hurdles, placing fourth overall with a time of 15.64 seconds. 

In the women's 400 meter dash, junior Ellie Kitsmiller would run 59.95 seconds placing seventh overall. 

Genevieve Arnold would return once again for the 100 meter dash as she would lead the way for the Blue Streaks placing fourth with a time of 12.22 seconds, followed by junior Mia Scott, also returning for her second event of the day placing 10th with a time of 12.84 seconds. Kaleigh McNamara would also make her second appearance earning a personal best in the event with a time of 13.19 seconds. 

Moving on to the women's 800 meter run, senior Claire Eberhard would return for her second race of the day placing sixth overall with a time of 2:21.19, followed by senior Annie Higgins placing seventh overall crossing the finish line with a time of 2:21.26. 

In her first appearance in the event, junior Elizabeth Heim would run 1:11.35 in the 400 meter hurdles placing seventh overall. 

In the final distance event of the day, sophomore Abby Schroff made her outdoor debut placing second overall with a time of 18:39.97 in the women's 5000 meter run. Senior Audrey Sadd would earn herself a personal best with a time of 20:14.00 placing seventh. 

To conclude the day in the women's 4 x 400 meter relay, the team consisting of Rosie Murray, Ellie Kitsmiller, Sara Gennuso, and Claire Eberhardt would place second overall with a total time of 4:06.44. 

The Blue Streaks will be competing again next week as they take on another meet weekend. A small contingent of the team will be competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, while most of the team will be traveling to the Tiffin Track Carnival in Tiffin, Ohio.
