Blue Streaks Finish Second Overall Scoring 144 Points At The 2024 OAC Outdoor Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - The men came into day two with determination and poise coming off of their fourth place stance after the first day of the championship meet. 

That all changed as they finished second overall as a team scoring 144 points. The Purple Raiders of Mount Union claimed the OAC title, earning their 13th straight outdoor championship. 

Final Results

The Blue Streaks made the most out of day two as they collected many personal best finishes, as well as national performances that helped carry them to a second place finish for the program. 

In the field events, in the men's triple jump, senior Jimmy Kartsonas would bounce back from yesterday as he would earn an All-OAC honor securing a third place overall finish with a mark of 13.51 meters.

The men's high jump would be one for the history books. Luke Frazier would lead the way for JCU as he would tie Baldwin Wallace's Christian Pfieffer for the OAC Championship crown with a mark of 2.12 meters (6 '11' 1⁄2). Frazier would break the school record in the event as he is tied for the leading mark in NCAA Division III with Pfieffer, guaranteeing him a spot in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 

Transitioning to the running events, the men's 4x100 meter relay would kick it off to secure a third place finish overall with a time of 40.60 seconds to earn All-OAC. The relay consisted of Cam Klauke, Garrett Clark, Dustin Horner, and Jimmy Kartsonas

In the men's 1500 meter run, two Blue Streaks would score as sophomore Ian Paul (3:52.88) and Jack Root (3:53.45) would run to personal best finishing fifth and sixth respectively. 

Basheer Alramahi would continue to be successful in the 400 meter dash as he would earn another All-OAC accolade finishing second overall with a time of 46.50 seconds, which is a new personal best for Alramahi. Tyler Gast would finish sixth overall with a time of 48.50 seconds to contribute for the Blue Streaks. 

Senior Garrett Clark would continue his progression for JCU as he would earn All-OAC honors in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.69 seconds finishing third, followed by Jimmy Kartsonas (10.70 seconds) and Dustin Horner (10.79 seconds) earning fourth and seventh place finishes. 

The men's 800 meter run was a fantastic finish as two Blue Streak runners would earn All-OAC accolades earning second and third place finishes. Caleb Correia would clock in at 1:51.70, while sophomore Ian Paul would run 1:51.99, which is a new personal best for Paul. 

In the men's 400 meter hurdles, senior Mick Doyle would run a new personal best of 53.78 seconds, earning another All-OAC accolade to add to his resume. 

In spectacular fashion, sophomore Dustin Horner would add 10 points to the Blue Streaks total as he would win the 200 meter dash, running a new personal best of 21.30 seconds, followed by Garrett Clark (21.44 seconds) and Basheer Alramahi (21.50 seconds) to place third and fourth overall. 

In the last distance event of the meet, junior Dominic Delmoro would lead for the Blue Streaks as he would earn the runner-up finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:35.83, a new personal best for Delmoro and another All-OAC accolade. 

To close things out, in the men's 4x400 meter relay, the team of Tim Herczog, Brody Hanlon, Caleb Correia, and Jack Arnold would secure a fourth place finish, adding to the Blue Streaks total with a time of 3:17.19 to end the day on a high note. 

The men came away with a lot of momentum and confidence for these next few weeks as they prepare for their last chance meets the next few weeks before they compete at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships at the end of May. They will be back in action next week at the Harrison Dillard Twilight on Friday, May 10th hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. 

Another historic OAC Championship meet for the Blue Streaks is now complete as they get ready for more championship racing on the horizon.
