Women's Basketball Falls Short at Ohio Northern

Abigail Rosol notched a career-high 18 points to top JCU's scorers

ADA – Playing at the ONU Sports Center is something that the Blue Streaks will likely not miss about leaving the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Playing in Ada always presents a challenge, and while John Carroll Women's Basketball battled hard, it was too tall a task today.

In a war between two teams that entered the day tied for second in the conference with 7-2 marks at the halfway point, ONU grabbed a 71-54 win.

The second straight defeat marks JCU's first losing streak of the season, and the first time the Streaks have allowed 70 points in a game.

In the opening four minutes, the Polar Bears burst out to an 8-2 lead. JCU did get within one possession, but ONU fired up a 10-point run to take full control. Ava Ryncarz buried a late triple to narrow the gap to 20-11 at the first break.

The shooting woes continued for the visitors in the second quarter, while the Polar Bears overcame a fierce JCU defense. The high water mark was 31-13 with 3:06 left in the second quarter, leading to a JCU timeout. The Blue & Gold did outscore Ohio Northern the rest of the quarter, but the deficit looked large with a late ONU 3-pointer extending the margin to 37-21.

The Polar Bears continued to march onwards in the third quarter, extending the lead to 20, prompting a JCU timeout near the midway mark. While Abigail Rosol went on a roll, scoring eight points the rest of the stanza, but ONU stood in full control entering the fourth, ahead 56-37.

Rosol continued to rake in points to start the fourth, but the Polar Bears provided enough answers on offense to outlast the Streaks.

Rosol enjoyed a heck of a day, with a career-best 18 points. Ava Ryncarz also reached double figures with 12 points.
