Dalziel finishes with 7 OAC Swimmer of the Week Accolades

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Athletic Conference awarded its Athlete of the Week in Women's Swimming to Blue Streak junior Mairin Dalziel.

In a week that saw the Blue Streaks snag two victories against Baldwin Wallace 167-76 and Wilmington 177-39, Dalziel performed exceptionally in both individual and relay events to push JCU to a 5-0 mark in OAC duals.

Against the Yellow Jackets, the Royal Oak, Michigan native went a perfect 3-for-3, finishing first place in all of her events. In the 200 Free, Dalziel won with a time of 1:58.09, nearly five seconds better than the second-placer. She earned a similarly nice win in the 100 Free with a mark of 53.98. Finally, as a member of the 200 Free Relay, Dalziel helped JCU compile a winning time of 1:43.86. However, Dalziel was not done yet.

On Saturday, Dalziel once again won all of her events, including the 50 and 100 Free. In the 200 Free, the junior broke a personal best finishing with a time of 1:42.86, besting the field by 8 seconds. Her 50 Free time of 24.16 and 100 Free mark of 53.26 were both enough for easy wins in the events. In the 200 Free Relay, Dalziel did nice work in helping JCU compile a time of 1:42.86, easily enough to win. Finally in the 200 Medley Relay, Dalziel and her teammates combined for a dominant winning time of 1:51.41.

This marks the seventh OAC Athlete of the Week honor for Dalziel, as she garnered it three times in her first year, and three times as a sophomore.

It was another big regular season for the eight-time defending OAC champion Blue Streaks, as now they enter championship season. Keep an eye on the squad as they look to conclude their OAC tenure with another championship crown.
