Tyren Montgomery Repeats as NCAC Offensive Player of the Week

Montgomery made the game-winning catch for the Blue Streaks in a win at #11/9 DePauw

CLEVELAND – The 2025 campaign has been filled with excellent outings for John Carroll's standout wideout, but Saturday's effort was a legacy game.

And for that outstanding, game-winning performance, the star is being rewarded.

Tyren Montgomery is the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for Football.

Montgomery repeats the honor after also winning last week. This is his third weekly conference accolade overall, garnering the distinction from the OAC a year ago.

The Woodlands, Texas native stood out as Nick Semptimphelter's top option on Saturday. Montgomery caught nearly everything that Semptimphelter threw his way, hauling in a total of 12 receptions for 109 yards. More importantly, Montgomery registered 3 receiving touchdowns, the last of which won the ballgame with 14.4 seconds.

Montgomery's TD catch on the game-winning drive sealed a 31-27 victory over #11/9 DePauw, ending the Tigers' 29-game regular season winning streak.

Montgomery got it done in the short to intermediate passing game, making tacklers miss often. His shiftiness is a key trait, as racks up yards after the catch.

The talented wideout is making his mark in the JCU recordbooks. Montgomery now stands tied for second in program history with 27 receiving touchdowns in just two seasons, alongside another transfer, Aramis Greenwood (27, 2012-14). Montgomery also leads the NCAC in both receiving yards (741) and TDs (10) this season. His 59 receptions are also just outside the top 10 in single-season history, just 10 away from Frank Ross' single-season record of 69.

Notably, with Saturday's 12-catch effort, Montgomery became JCU's first receiver in program history to notch 12 receptions in three games in a single season. Montgomery is the third Blue Streak to notch 12 catches in a game three times in his career, joining Ross and Hank Durica.

Montgomery and the Blue Streaks moved up the rankings this week, moving up to #15 in the NPI, #13 in both the AFCA Coaches Poll and D3football.com rankings.

John Carroll will host Homecoming on Saturday, with the College of Wooster coming to Don Shula Stadium for a 1:05 pm kickoff.
