Volleyball Starts off Indiana Trip with Victory over Hanover

JCU's dominance in the front row made the difference

HANOVER, Ind. – The opening leg of a roadtrip to Indiana provided another opportunity to add to the win column for John Carroll Volleyball.

The Blue Streaks did just that, securing a fifth straight conquest.

JCU advanced to 12-6 on the season, firing past Hanover College in four sets: 27-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18.

The teams traded jabs in the opening set. But in a bout that came down to the wire, fewer mistakes proved to be the difference. As the stat sheet showed, 11 errors in the opening set for the Panthers eventually proved to be their undoing in the opener, decided by the razor-thin 2-point margin. With the set tied at 25-all, a Grace Jones kill and a Hanover error provided JCU with a crucial start.

Roaring to a 7-2 start in the second set, the Blue Streaks stood in full control, guided by the powerful arm of Natalie Glowe. The Panthers pulled to within 16-12, but a 4-0 run by JCU, including a GG Beuselinck ace, set down Hanover.

But the hosts did not roll over, recovering from 10-5 and 15-9 deficits in the third set to start. Hanover took a 21-18 lead courtesy of a 4-point lead and despite strong play by Glowe and Co, the Panthers avoided a sweep.

Yet another fierce start by JCU threatened to make it a laugher with a 14-6 lead, but a 5-point Hanover run provided hope. Strong play by Glowe and Hailey Williams down the stretch ended any comeback hopes, with JCU running away with a 25-18 victory.

Natalie Glowe packed the stat sheet with a team-best 16 kills plus 16 digs. Olivia Mogyordy's statline also sticks out, as her 33 digs were only a few off a career high. Haley Nicholson shined with 17 assists, with Tess Humphrey firing up 16 assists plus 15 digs.

Perhaps one of the top numbers to behold: JCU's massive 24-6 advantage in blocks. Reigning NCAC Athlete of the Week Kendra Dziubinski and Kallan Hrics both accumulated 6 to lead the effort.
