Men’s Cross Country Places Third Overall At Regional Championships, Highlighted By Four Runners Earning All-Region Status

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Blue Streaks returned to a very familiar course this morning and battled from start to finish. 

At the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships from EP "Tom" Sawyer State Park, JCU would come away with a third place finish overall with a total score of 130 points. 

This led to four individuals earning USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region honors, placing themselves in the top 35. 

Hope College took home the regional championship with a score of 53 points, placing all seven of their runners in the top 20. 

Following up in second was Rose-Hulman College, who had two runners finish both first and second to cement themselves in the top two of the race. 

Final Results

Leading the way for the Blue Streaks was sophomore Sam Su, placing 13th overall with a time of 25:26.39 to secure his first All-Region accolade. 

Next across the finish line for JCU was senior Ian Paul, clocking in at 25:32.47 to place 16th overall. 

Stepping up for the men in a tight battle was junior Phil Coury. In his first regional championship performance, Coury placed 23rd overall with a time of 25:42.88 to also earn his first All-Region honor. 

Earning his second All-Region accolade was junior Nate Julien as he would place 33rd overall with a time of 25:53.95. 

Rounding up the top five in scoring was sophomore Joey Naiman, earning a 46th place finish, running 26:05.06. 

Chuck Reigrut (26:22.90) and Charlie Payne (26:26.83) placed 59th and 68th overall to finish out the rest for JCU in the 8k race. 

The Blue Streaks will now await to see if they will receive an at-large bid or have an individual qualify to the NCAA National Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Saturday, November 22nd. 

List of qualifiers and teams will be announced on Sunday, November 16th at 3:00 PM (ET) on NCAA.com.
