Chicone steered JCU to a pair of wins to open the season

CLEVELAND – The Man has returned.

After missing all but four games last season, John Carroll Men's Basketball's All-American returned to the hardwood with style this past week.

And thus, Luke Chicone is the North Coast Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The graduate student shined in a pair of victories to open the season for the Blue Streaks. Chicone guided JCU to its first back-to-back 100-point efforts to start a season since 2021-22.

For starters, Chicone led all players with 22 points (supplementing his stat line with 7 rebounds and 4 assists) in a 100-96 win over Olivet. It was quite the impressive season debut for the Mentor native.

For an encore, Chicone accumulated 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in a fantastic effort at Heidelberg in a 103-88 win. For his efforts, Chicone was named to the All-Tournament Team at Heidelberg's Ron Linhart Memorial Classic.

A preseason D3hoops.com All-American, Chicone is certainly living up to the billing so far this season.

Chicone and the Blue Streaks head to Mount St. Joseph for the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
