The Blue Streaks enjoyed competing in the beautiful new space

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – For the first time ever, varsity competition graced the Athletic, Wellness & Events Center on Sunday.

With the sun peeking through the beautiful windows, a good crowd gathered to witness history with John Carroll Women's Wrestling helping to christen the AWE.

The Blue Streaks rose to the occasion as hosts of the 2025 JCU Women's Wrestling Duals. John Carroll notched a pair of wins in a successful overall day.

JCU dominated Waynesburg University, 41-4, and Hiram College, 34-12. The day ended with a defeat to Bethany College, 33-16, but the Blue Streaks still had to feel good about the 2-1 record.

"Super grateful that we were the first team to compete in the AWE while getting a couple wins," said Associate Head Coach Ryan Monk. "I'm really proud of the women and their development and their continued excellence in different areas of living a championship lifestyle."

To open the day, the Blue Streaks earned some excellent individual victories over Waynesburg. Kaiden Boshers roared for a strong pin at 131. Nora Mooney followed it up with a fantastic fall at 138. And Olivia Beaulieu galloped out of the gates at 180 in a dominant performance, needing just 28 seconds to pin her opponent.

Hiram picked up more points against JCU, but the hosts still dominated overall. Emily Leeseburg nabbed a strong 10-0 tech fall at 117 to cheers from the crowd. Riley Duffey also picked up a scoreless tech fall, of the 11-0 variety. Mooney excelled in a pin that took just 90 seconds at 145 while wrestling up.

"We had to do some bumping around to give ourselves a chance. Leslie Sullivan and Nora Mooney answered the call and competed really hard," said Monk. "They were super coachable in every single area."

Leslie Sullivan also went up a class from normal and put up perhaps one of the more impressive wins of the day. The first year thwarted her Hiram opponent in a match that took the full time, battling for a 3-2 decision. Beaulieu provided an exclamation point with a 10-3 decision at 180.

While Bethany defeated the Blue Streaks, it was not a match without high points for John Carroll. Taylor MacAdam continued a strong start to the year, snatching a 12-2 tech fall at 103. Duffey's dramatic 10-8 decision at 124 elicited a roar from the crowd. Mooney did excellent work at 145, registering a 17-4 tech fall.
