Women's Basketball Starts Season with Dominant Conquest of Alma

The Blue Streaks led from start to finish in the Winking Lizard Tournament Opener

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – No doubt about it, John Carroll Women's Basketball has a knack for starting the season strong.

The Blue Streaks rolled past the Alma College Scots, 97-56, to start the 2025-26 campaign with a win at the Winking Lizard Tip-Off Tournament at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The victory marks the 17th straight season that John Carroll starts the season with a 1-0 record.

Ava Ryncarz provided a good omen for the season with a 3-pointer on the very first possession of the game. While the Scots did tie it at nine at the midway mark, JCU stood in control heading into the second quarter, 18-13.

The Blue Streaks quickly got the lead up to double digits with a Graci Semptimphelter fast break bucket a couple minutes into the quarter. From there, the rout was on. Semptimphelter powered a 33-point quarter that was a thing of beauty for Blue Streaks fans.

With a 21-point lead at halftime, Head Coach Beth Andrews '15 got to play her young guns in the second half after Ryncarz hit a couple more triples to really put it out of reach.

A total of 14 Blue Streaks scored points and 16 players in all touched the court tonight, the sign of a true team victory.

Ryncarz guided the team with 20 points. Semptimphelter registered 18 points in a strong effort. Nicci Finazzo reached double figures with 11 points for the first time in her collegiate career, while Kaylie McKenney followed closely with 10 points.
