Blue Streaks Drop High Tempo Game Against Wabash

Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH - The John Carroll men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game in a high-tempo, up and down game against the Wabash Little Giants. The Blue and Gold drop to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in NCAC play, while Wabash improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. 

John Carroll started the game off incredibly hot, with five-straight baskets and all five starters contributing to at least one make and giving JCU a 13-6 edge. The Little Giants would keep up with the high-paced Blue Streaks offense and go on a 7-0 run to tie the game. 

The two squads would trade baskets the entire half, but JCU would enter the locker room with a 56-54 edge. The Blue Streak offense was on fire shooting 54% from the field, including nine three-pointers. 

Luke Chicone would put on a show, by scoring 18 points and recording five assists in the first half of action. 

The second half would follow a near identical script of high-tempo and high scoring. Brandon Rose would get the crowd going midway through the half by connecting on back-to-back corner three's to give JCU a 70-67 advantage. 

WIth 3:01 remaining in the game Rose connected on a pair of free throws to give the Blue Streaks an 89-87 lead. Unfortunately, that would be the final lead JCU would have, as the Little Giants connected on a three-pointer on the following possession. 

Aidan Fitzgerald connected on a three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to three points. Rich Brooks of Wabash missed the first of two free throws giving the JCU faithful a glimmer of hope. Brooks would connect on the next free throw and the Little Giants came away with a 101-97 victory. 

Chicone led the Blue Streaks with 27 points and eight assists, Fitzgerald buried four three-pointers and ended with 15 points. Sean Collins and Kyle Irwin combined for 19 points and 10 rebounds and battled with 6'7 big man Gavin Schippert.

Next up, JCU will travel to Wooster on Wednesday night for a tip-off at 7 p.m.
