Ryncarz's Record Day Guides Women's Basketball Past Berry

Ava Ryncarz broke the program record for 3-pointers in a game just 15 days after Semptimphelter set it

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Graci Semptimphelter's 3-pointer record didn't last long.

The Tennessean enjoyed a second straight prolific day in her home state to help guide John Carroll, but it was Ava Ryncarz who stole the spotlight for the Blue Streaks.

Just three games after Semptimphelter set the program single-game mark for 3-pointers made in a game with 9, Ryncarz nailed 10 triples in a 73-47 blowout win over Berry College (Ga.).

During her four-year JCU career, Ryncarz has enjoyed some outstanding games, but statistically speaking, this was her best. The Aurora native poured in a career-best 34 points while shooting 12-of-24 from the field and 10-of-20 from deep to set the new 3-point record.

The win advances #11 JCU to 9-1 on the season heading into the new year.

The stage was set for history in the opening moments. Semptimphelter made the game's first shot just 14 seconds in on a triple. JCU's next two buckets were also triples as Ryncarz started to heat up. Berry pulled back to within two near the midpoint, but Semptimphelter fired up a 4-point run and then Katie Puletti and Nicci Finazzo nailed triples. With a Ryncarz jumper punctuating the quarter, JCU headed into the second leading 25-12.

Carly Perusek and Kaylie McKenney took turn hitting back-to-back layups in the paint with steals in between. A Semptimphelter triple secured a 39-22 lead at the break.

Ryncarz caught fire with an impressive 4 triples in the opening 3:07 of the third quarter. Ryncarz and Co. continued the attack throughout the stanza, carrying a 27-point advantage into the fourth.

The senior guard buried the record-breaking 3-pointer with 2:31 to play, cementing an all-time game for the JCU star. The Vikings couldn't contain the veteran in this game and did not threaten late.

For Ryncarz and the Blue Streaks, you can say it was not a bad way to close out the Christmas break trip to Tennessee.

Beyond Ryncarz's fantastic 34-point, 11-rebound effort, Semptimphelter impressed with 16 points. McKenney quietly enjoyed a nice game with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

As a team, this marks the fourth game this season with 10 or more makes from deep for the Blue Streaks.
