Tyren Montgomery and Nick Semptimphelter Secure D3football.com All-America Honors

Semptimphelter and Montgomery will be forever remembered in JCU Football history

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — One of the finest quarterback-wide receiver duos in John Carroll Football history is getting its due.

This deadly combo guided the Blue Streaks to the NCAA Semifinal for just the third time in program history, with memorable wins along the way.

Tyren Montgomery is a First Team D3football.com All-American and Nick Semptimphelter is a Fourth Team All-American. Montgomery and Semptimphelter are JCU's first WR-QB duo to earn All-American honors together in the same season.

Montgomery and Semptimphelter compiled impressive numbers that rewrote the JCU record books and also etched a spot in the NCAA annals.

Together, the two helped the Blue Streaks set a new NCAA Division III standard (and perhaps a new NCAA record if things fall the right way) with a 77.16 completion percentage as a team.

For his part, Montgomery now owns the JCU records for receptions in a season (119) and receiving yards (1,528) as well as for receiving TDs (17 last season). His 15 touchdown catches this year are also impressive.

Montgomery's consistency over the course of the season was a joy for JCU fans to watch. When it mattered most, Montgomery proved to be Mr. Reliable, with 38 receptions for 440 yards and 2 TDs in the playoffs (with 9 or more catches in all 4 games).

Semptimphelter broke the NCAA Division III mark for completion percentage and holds the NCAA mark at the moment with a completion percentage of 77.9%. Julian Sayin of Ohio State may yet beat him out on that, but the NCAA D-III mark belongs to Semptimphelter.

Beyond that, Semptimphelter set the JCU single-season record for passing yards in a season with 3,623. His 36 touchdowns against his 4 interceptions are quite noteworthy.

In terms of career numbers in the JCU record book, Semptimphelter finishes his career fourth in program history in passing TDs (74) and fifth in passing yards (6,535) as well as being the new leader in completion percentage. Only seven interceptions in 697 attempts is also a remarkable stat. Meanwhile, Montgomery ends his career second in receiving touchdowns (32) as well as third in receptions (176) and receiving yards (2,599). Montgomery also set a new mark for receptions per game in a career with 6.77.

Montgomery is the first Blue Streak to make the D3football.com All-America Team as a wideout. Armani's Greenwood made it as a returner in 2014 while also enjoying a great season as a wideout, and wide receiver David Ziegler garnered honors in 1999 as a returnman. Semptimphelter is JCU's first D3football All-America quarterback in over a decade (last: Mark Myers, 2014).
