Ava Ryncarz, Carly Perusek, and Graci Semptimphelter all earned recognition

WESTERVILLE – A trio of talented Blue Streaks have earned all-conference recognition from the Ohio Athletic Conference.

John Carroll Women's Basketball finished the regular season in third place in the OAC standings, falling to Otterbein University on Tuesday evening in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinal, concluding the season at 19-7 overall.

Ava Ryncarz (First Team), Carly Perusek (Second Team), and Graci Semptimphelter (Honorable Mention) are All-OAC picks for the Blue Streaks.

Looking at the OAC honorees as a whole, JCU finished tied for second with three selections, knotted up with Capital and Baldwin Wallace. Ohio Northern tops the league with four awardees.

Ava Ryncarz headlines the winners for John Carroll, and for good reason. The Aurora native enjoyed a wholly dominant campaign as the top scorer for JCU. Not only that, Ryncarz was one of the top playmakers in all of the conference.

The junior started all 26 games, leading the team with 29 minutes per game. Ryncarz topped the team with 16.7 points per game, good for second in the OAC. Her work on the boards was always fun to watch, as Ryncarz averaged 7.3 rebounds per game, fourth in the league. Her ability to make magic happen from downtown was always fun to watch, as her 40.2% clip from 3-point range stands third in the OAC. Plus, Ryncarz notched an 88.8% percentage from the free-throw line (third in program history), 28 assists, and 27 steals. She finished with 7 double-doubles and hit double digits in scoring in 24 games.

Ryncarz is now a three-time All-OAC honoree, progressing from Honorable Mention as a first year to Second Team as a sophomore, and now all the way to First Team recognition.

Carly Perusek garners Second Team status for JCU, her first time winning all-conference recognition. The Beaumont grad broke through in her junior campaign, averaging 7.8 points per game. More impressively, Perusek tallied a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game, ranking third in the OAC. The Willoughby Hills native notched 4 double-doubles and 37 assists.

The star post player led eligible players with a 55.7% field goal percentage, currently tops in the OAC, quite the impressive stat.

Graci Semptimphelter starred in her first season in University Heights. The Ohio Wesleyan transfer made a bigtime impact as a playmaking guard. The Tennessee native finished second on the squad with 9.8 points per game, reaching double digits in 13 games. The junior led the team 48 steals this year. With 55 assists, she stood third on the team.

Semptimphelter proved to be a critical cog of the John Carroll offense and will be key next season, as well.
