Women's Tennis Concludes Trip to Hilton Head

The Blue Streaks won three of four matches in South Carolina

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The trip to Hilton Head concluded on Friday for John Carroll Women's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks made up a previously postponed match against Tiffin University on Thursday evening, losing a 5-2 contest.

And then on Friday, the Blue Streaks did battle with LeTourneau University. John Carroll ended the trip with a taste of victory in a 6-1 win.

JCU vs. Tiffin
Despite facing off with a Division II foe, the Blue Streaks showed no signs of fear in doubles play. In fact, John Carroll won all three to take the team doubles point.

Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren eked out a 6-4 conquest at #1 doubles. Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith won by an identical 6-4 decision at #2. Caroline Chandler and Madi Davila ensured the sweep at #3.

Singles play did not go as well for the Blue Streaks. Caroline Chandler stood as the lone Blue Streak winner, as the veteran fired up a 6-2, 6-3 conquest at #6 singles. Deren dueled her foe closely at #2 singles in a 6-7 (4-7), 2-6 defeat. Davila also fought hard in a very narrowly decided contest, 6-7 (5-7), 4-6.

JCU vs. LeTourneau
John Carroll got off on the right foot by rolling in doubles to take the team point. Kavenagh and Deren rolled, 6-1. Kolb and Smith strode to a 6-2 conquest. Davila and Chandler needed a 7-3 tiebreaker to win, 7-6, but got the job done.

Kavenagh cruised at the top singles spot, 6-3, 6-1. Deren did even better at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Kolb also rolled at #, 6-1, 6-2.

Davila did her job at #4, 6-2, 6-2. Smith also excelled at #5, 6-3, 6-1. Chandler experienced the lone loss of the match at #6, 5-7, 3-6.
