The Blue Streaks lost against a stout Battling Bishops squad

Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio – A challenging non-conference slate continued on Saturday for John Carroll Men's Lacrosse.

The Blue Streaks made the 2-hour trip south to face Ohio Wesleyan, a traditionally strong foe from the North Coast Athletic Conference. Not at full-strength due to several players battling the flu and injuries, the Blue Streaks could not overcome a strong OWU team on the road.

John Carroll succumbed to the Battling Bishops, 18-7.

Out of the gate, Ohio Wesleyan got out to a strong start. The Battling Bishops fired up a 3-0 lead, though Larry Voss gave JCU a bright spot with a tally at 1:43. OWU ended any hopes of momentum heading into the second quarter, though, scoring a goal with just 9 seconds left to go into the break up 4-1.

The opening stages of the second period belonged to the Battling Bishops. The hosts rolled for a 4-0 run for starters until Braden Zarek got JCU back on the board near the midpoint. Henry Ross responded for OWU, though JCU bounced back down the stretch. Zarek and Voss both found twine in the final couple minutes, narrowing the gap to a more manageable 9-4 at the break.

Frank LaForce opened the scoring in the third, but OWU answered JCU's 3-goal run with a 5-1 jaunt to close the quarter. A Sean Keane man-up goal off a Zarek assist stood as a highlight, but the Battling Bishops stood in full control heading into the final period, 14-6.

Brody Forrest fired home a goal in transition to start the fourth quarter, a nice highlight for the longpole. But the Battling Bishops rolled the rest of the fourth quarter en route to their victory.

OWU's advantage on faceoffs proved to be a critical aspect, as the Battling Bishops won 21-of-29. The hosts also dominated the groundball battle, 47-22. Devin Holder set a new season high with 18 saves. Zarek led the JCU offense with 3 points.
