Men’s Track & Field Competes At Bucknell & Mount Union In Split Squad Weekend

Blue Streaks Compete At Both Bucknell And Mount Union, Highlighted by Several Personal Bests
LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania & ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Blue Streaks took on their second straight split squad weekend of the season and took advantage of the opportunity. 

Throughout the weekend, there were several performances that made top ten marks in the OAC, as well as personal bests made. 

On Saturday, April 12th, a small contingent traveled to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. 

The next day on Sunday, April 13th, most of the athletes competed at the John Homon Open hosted by the University of Mount Union at Kehres Stadium.

Competition got started for the Blue Streaks with junior Ian Paul making an appearance in the invite section of the 1500 meter run. He placed 62nd overall with a time of 3:58.56, running in his first 1500 of the season. 

In the invite section of the men's 5000 meter run, senior Dominic Delmoro placed 30th overall with a time of 14:38.35 in his first appearance in the event this outdoor season. 

Lastly, senior Ryan Champa would return in the 10000 meter run for the Blue Streaks as he would place 25th overall with a new personal record time of 30:15.21. 

Due to weather conditions, most of the John Homon Open was moved to Sunday.

To get the day started, in the field events, senior Matthew Russo would place in the top 10 of the men's discus throw with a mark of 14.90 meters, placing eighth overall. Sophomore Moose Frombach would record two personal bests over the weekend in the discus (39.63 meters) and hammer throw (42.52 meters) events. 

In the men's high jump, first year Julius Kimbrough would be the first Blue Streak to place high as he would place fourth overall with a new mark of 1.93 meters. Senior George Wilson would also collect a new personal best in the event with a mark of 1.88 meters, placing seventh overall. 

Going into the running events, the men's 3000 meter steeplechase would be a fun one to watch as first year Joey Naiman would make his debut in the event. Naiman would place second overall with a time of 9:49.71. 
In the men's 4x100 meter relay, the team of Ryan Anderson, Basheer Alramahi, Mick Doyle, and Ethan Show placed second overall with a time of 41.76 seconds.

The duo of Jack Root and Brian Standley would place high for the Blue Streaks in the men's 1500 meter run as they would both place in the top 15. Root would finish fifth overall with a time of 4:06.53, while Standley would finish 15th, clocking in at 4:13.39. 

Two athletes would also record personal bests in the 400 meter dash. Reece Bacak (49.28 seconds) and Brendan Root (51.58 seconds) would place fourth and 14th respectively. 

The 800 meter run was well-represented as senior Jett Wieber would be the first Blue Streak to cross the finish line as he would place second overall with a time of 1:55.46. Chris Whiting (1:58.12), Grant Preto (1:58.52), and Max Grillo (1:58.54) would finish 10th, 11th, and 12th place overall. 

Senior Tyler Gast and sophomore Ethan Show would make an appearance in the men's 200 meter dash and record personal bests as well. Gast would place sixth overall with a time of 21.99 seconds, while Show placed 13th overall, clocking in at 22.71 seconds. 

In the men's 5000 meter run, first years Charlie Payne (15:05.66) and Sam Su (15:08.23) would lead from start to finish for the group as they would record their best time in the event. Sophomore Nate Julien would also record a personal best in the event with a time of 15:10.62. 

To conclude, the men's 4x400 meter relay of Tyler Gast, Mick Doyle, Victor Ononogbo, and Basheer Alramahi would finish first overall with a time of 3:15.22. They are now ranked first in the OAC with that time. 

Next up for the Blue Streaks is another split squad weekend. A small group of the sprinters will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia for the Georgia Tech Invitational and the rest of the team will be competing at the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace next Friday to Saturday, April 18th-19th.
