The JCU Baseball duo earned the distinction from the College Sports Communicators

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – As a season to remember fades into the rearview mirror, John Carroll Baseball can celebrate a pair of star student-athletes.

On Tuesday, two Blue Streaks earned honors from the College Sports Communicators.

Frank Freeman and Michael Persichetti have garnered All-District honors from the CSC.

To secure All-District recognition in baseball, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

Frank Freeman stood out as a star pitcher for John Carroll this year. The Chicagoan finished fourth on the team with 6 starts, making 10 appearances. In 39 innings, the junior tallied 37 strikeouts, including a season high nine vs. Concordia College Minnesota on March 2. Freeman made five appearances against Ohio Athletic Conference foes, including two starts, striking out 18 batters in 19 innings of work.

Freeman is working towards a degree in Computer Science, with a near perfect GPA.

Michael Persichetti was a consistent force at shortstop for the Blue Streaks. The senior started all 40 games, one of just three players to achieve the feat. The Chagrin Falls native held down the fort well at shortstop, flashing the leather often. Persichetti compiled a .254 batting average as a good singles hitter with a patient approach at the dish. The Kenston grad topped the team with 27 walks and drew 6 hit by pitches. He also added 4 stolen bases.

Persichetti walked the stage this past May, acquiring his degree in Finance.
