Blue Streaks Leave New Concord with a Pair of Victories

NEW CONCORD - The John Carroll volleyball team traveled to Muskingum University for two matches on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and came away with two wins and have now won four-straight matches, JCU improves to 7-4 overall.

WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON

The Blue Streaks came out of the gates on fire starting the day with a service ace from Tess Humphrey. JCU stayed consistent and built a comfortable 10-3 advantage and forced a W&J timeout.

Later in the first set, JCU put together an impressive 7-0 run which included two kills by Natalie Glowe and two service aces by Olivia Mogyordy. The Blue and Gold cruised to a 25-15 first set victory.

The Blue Streaks traded points with the Presidents throughout the majority of the second set with the score tied 16-16. Grace Jones turned it on, recording three kills and helping JCU pull ahead 20-16. JCU would score the final four points of the set winning 25-20 and owning a 2-0 edge.

In the third and final set, the Blue and Gold fell behind 3-8. Later in the set, JCU would score 10 of 11 points and hold a 15-10 edge. W&J would battle back, but never regain the lead as John Carroll came away winning 25-17.

MUSKINGUM

The second match of the day came against a familiar foe, but as a non-conference opponent. In the first set, JCU dropped the first three points.

The Blue and Gold would bounce back quickly and score seven of the next eight points and hold a 7-4 edge. Both squads would trade points with each other for the remainder of the set, but JCU came away winning 25-21.

Muskingum would bounce back in the second set by winning 25-17.

In the third set, Muskingum jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and seemed in control. However, the Blue and Gold would not be rattled, as John Carroll would answer quickly tying the set at 5-5.

JCU stayed true to the gameplan and battled for each point before pulling away and winning the set 25-18.

John Carroll and Muskingum traded points for majority of the fourth set, but the Blue and Gold came up clutch when it mattered most.
With the score tied 23-23, Mary Kate Sheehan recorded a massive kill giving JCU the edge and a chance to win. A bad set by Muskingum ended the match and the Blue Streaks came away victorious.
