Volleyball Defeats Ohio Wesleyan & Buffalo State In Tri-Match At Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - In front of an electrifying crowd in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, the Blue Streaks would pick up two solid victories.

The Blue Streaks bested the Battling Bishops by set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 25-23.

In their match against Buffalo State, the Blue Streaks outlasted the Bengals by set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

JCU vs. OWU
Haley Nicholson set the tone in the early going with a strong streak at the line, with a trio of aces en route to a 9-3 JCU lead. The visitors returned fire to tie things at 10-apiece and took a slight lead. Balanced play by John Carroll helped the Blue Streaks pick up a bit of momentum, aided by a couple of Grace Jones kills. With the set tied at 22, a pair of OWU errors and a Mary Kate Sheehan helped JCU snag a 25-22 victory.

Nicholson thrived on the service line in the second stanza, guiding JCU to a 6-0 run, with Glowe notching three kills to get JCU ahead, 10-5. JCU stayed hot, with Tess Humphrey keying a nice run. The hosts felt in command with a 17-11 lead, but the visitors fired back. The Battling Bishops responded with a 12-3 run, taking the momentum and running away in a 25-21 conquest.

JCU vs. Buffalo State
The Blue Streaks picked up where they left off and brought the energy very early on. As they built their lead in the first set, a kill from Kallan Hrics put the Blue Streaks up in front 5-2. After the Bengals tied it up, they answered with a bigger run, earning five crucial points to go up 10-5. Haley Nicholson led the way with four assists to contribute that run and ultimately, take the first set.

Bringing in that same effort from the first set, kills from Natalie Glowe and Kendra Dziubinski allowed the team to get out into an early lead. A 9-3 lead in the second set resulted in the Blue Streaks to secure top plays from Haley Nicholson, who would record 16 assists in the match and Olivia Mogyordy recording a total of 11 digs.

The third set ended up being back and forth as both teams traded runs of their own. Blocks from Mary Kate Sheehan and Kendra Dziubinski provided the necessary plays for the Blue Streaks to keep the set in reach. With a 22-19 lead, a kill by Mary Kate Sheehan from Tess Humphrey extended the opportunity to earn the sweep and build momentum, which ultimately led the Blue Streaks to being victorious for the second time today.
