CLEVELAND – On a chilly Cleveland Saturday, three Northeast Ohio squads trekked to Busbey Natatorium for the 2026 Cleveland Classic.

Competing against Baldwin Wallace and host Cleveland State, John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving posted nice results, most especially in the relays.

The Blue Streaks rolled past the Yellow Jackets, 186-44, while falling to the Vikings, 163-72.

Results

To lead off the day, JCU snagged a silver finish in the 200 Medley Relay. David Miller, Bart Kubis, Dom Falcon, and Owen Holm worked together well. The JCU quartet combined for a time of 1:33.33.

The Blue Streaks conquered the competition in the 200 Free Relay in impressive fashion. Patrick Branch, Holm, Falcon, and Cameron Cook killed it, working in unison for a strong time of 1:25.56. Cook's split especially stood out.

Later in the 400 Free Relay, JCU fired up a third place time of 3:14.23. Branch, Jacob Florio, Gallagher, and Holm formed the dynamic quartet.

Cameron Cook hinted at excellence later in the relays with fantastic work individually. Notably, the Virginian flew through the water in the 100 Free, crowning himself the champion in the event. Cook touched the wall in 46.79.

Sam Kmet shined brightly on the distance side of things. The Richfield native carded a second-place effort in the 1000 Free, outlasting the competition with a mark of 10:04.32. To follow it up, the Firestone grad turned in a time of 4:52.94, good for fourth.

The 100 Breaststroke yielded a dynamic result for the team. Bart Kubis directed the JCU effort, as the Park Ridge, Illinois native guided the way with a silver time of 57.73. Hofmann followed in third, while Alex Gallagher tabbed fourth.

Joe Nadur did his usual strong work on the IM side of things. The senior scored a time of 1:54.98 for second. In the 200 Free, Branch picked up a top-three finish, clocking in at 1:45.58.

Miller kept at it in the 100 Backstroke in the continuation of a nice weekend. The Decatur, Illinois native touched the wall second in the event in 51.48. Logan Snively followed him in third at 52.71. In the 50 Free, a pair of Blue Streaks finished back to back, too. Falcon and Hofmann took fifth and sixth with times of 22.34 and 22.36.

Michael Vertikoff impressed in the 100 Butterfly. The Hilliard Davidson grad snatched second in the event, clocking in at 52.04.
