UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – To start the season, John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving enjoyed a great start.

John Carroll rolled to a 162-50 victory over the Student Princes to start the season.

Results

In the first event of the year, Jacob Florio, Alex Gallagher, Michael Vertikoff, and Cameron Cook excelled in the 400 Medley Relay. The quartet combined for a victorious time of 3:30.93.

The day was defined in part by first years breaking out. Ayden Fortney, a Columbus native, edged out fellow first year Sebastian Suwanda as well as Nathan Reigle to win the 200 Free, the first individual event of the day.

Cook looked like an experienced vet in the 50 Back, turning in a personal best time of 23.88. Later, the Virginian touched the wall first in the 50 Free, beating out Dom Falcon with a time of 21.29. Cook's day was nothing short of amazing, for sure.

In the Breaststroke, Ian Hofmann edged out Gallagher to reign in both the 50 and the 100.

In the Butterfly, Zach Marinis took the cake in the 100, scoring a time of 53.82. Kyle Priset nabbed the fastest time in the 50 (just better than Mason Shantz) with a mark of 23.59. Priset also conquered the field in the 100 Free, touching the wall in 48.57.

Jacob Florio and David Miller finished back-to-back in the 100 Back with a pair of 53-second times. Florio also swam the fastest time in the 200 IM by six seconds

In the longest event of the day, the 500 Free, Tyler Klein roared. The first year won handily with a time of 4:50.88, a very impressive effort.

To close things out, JCU carded the top time in the 400 Free Relay. Cook, Falcon, Priset, and Shantz combined for the fastest mark at 3:13.39.
