Volleyball Conquers Wooster in Celebratory Senior Day

The Blue Streaks honored six seniors before the match

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On a festive Saturday afternoon, John Carroll Volleyball celebrated six seniors at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The Blue Streaks celebrated the six seniors with a 3-0 sweep of The College of Wooster by set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-15. Allie Drlik, Natalie Glowe, Kallan Hrics, Tess Murray, Mary Kate Sheehan, and Hailey Williams all celebrated Senior Day before the dominant victory.

Importantly, the Blue Streaks clinched a spot in the NCAC Tournament, as #5 seed JCU will head to #4 seed Denison University on Tuesday, November 10 for the Quarterfinal.

John Carroll and Wooster played close in the first set until some thunderous kills by Hailey Williams and Natalie Glowe helped set the hosts ahead. The Fighting Scots kept it close until stretch run, when Williams helped to put it away with a couple kills and a service ace.

The Blue Streaks got out to a rapid start in the second set, to the tune of a 5-1 lead with Glowe, Sheehan, and Williams contributing both up front and on the service line. JCU got out to a 14-4 advantage, far too deep a hole for Wooster to climb out of. The seniors continued to dominate down the stretch.

In the third set, Wooster kept it closer, within a couple points until JCU started adding to the lead gradually with Sheehan providing the big kills. A pair of Caylynn Hovan service aces seemed to take the wind out of Wooster's sails late, too. Some JCU aces late and a finishing kill by Kallan Hrics clinched the sweep for the hosts.

Fittingly, the seniors topped the team in most categories. Sheehan led the Streaks with 11 kills, followed by Williams with 10 kills and Glowe with seven. Tess Murray passed nearly perfectly with 32 assists. Olivia Mogyordy chipped in 14 digs.

"It was good to wrap up conference play with a win," said Head Coach Michele Benoit. "The seniors got to play a lot, they've been an integral part of our program for so long. I loved seeing the joy in our seniors and their parents in their final home match. We're very grateful for all the parents do for our program."
