Volleyball Tripped Up at #3 Carnegie Mellon

The Tartans handled the Blue Streaks in three sets

PITTSBURGH – The meat of the schedule has been unkind to John Carroll Volleyball.

Filled with challenges, this section of the slate has been a tough go for JCU. The latest challenge was a road match at #3 Carnegie Mellon.

The Tartans dispatched the Blue Streaks in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-12), as JCU dropped its fourth in five matches.

Right from the rip, Carnegie Mellon dominated with a 12-3 start. JCU managed to trim it to a 3-point deficit at 17-14, but then three straight CMU service aces changed the dynamic of the set.

The second set also featured a dominant middle stretch for the hosts. The Tartans galloped to a 17-11 lead. But then attack errors caught up with the Tartans, and kills by Mary Kate Sheehan and Grace Jones at last deadlocked the set at 22-apiece. But then CMU came up with three straight kills to end it.

An 8-1 start for the hosts set the stage for a lopsided third. A 6-0 CMU run late, offset a tad by a late handful of Natalie Glowe kills, put things out of reach.

Natalie Glowe led the team with 10 kills. Tess Murray tabbed 14 assists and Olivia Mogyordy tallied 14 digs.
