Women's Basketball Fires Past Oberlin in Penultimate Game of Regular Season

Kaylie McKenney led the way with a career-high 22 points

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Though #10 John Carroll Women's Basketball had already wrapped up the third seed in next week's  North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the Blue Streaks easily handled business on Wednesday.

In a midweek home matchup at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, the start was slow but the finish was just fine, as the Blue Streaks rolled.

John Carroll advanced to 21-3 overall, 10-3 in NCAC play with an 81-41 conquest.

Coming out of the gates, the Blue Streaks struggled to find a rhythm. The Yeowomen started off well, as the teams battled to a 12-12 draw after the first 10 minutes.

Ava Ryncarz buried a triple on the opening possession of the third quarter. Her bucket opened a 15-4 eruption for John Carroll, powered in large part by Ryncarz and Kaylie McKenney. A Ryncarz jumper at the midpoint of the quarter ballooned the lead to 33-17. The Blue Streaks fired on all cylinders, rarely missing a shot.

A Graci Semptimphelter triple and a Bella Houillion traditional three-point play kept the momentum going for JCU. The hosts stoof in full control heading into halftime, 42-22.

The opening portion of the third quarter was quiet until Semptimphelter sank a triple at the 6:35 mark. JCU remained hot from deep range with a Ryncarz 3-pointer a couple minutes later. McKenney reached a career high in points with a bucket before the third-quarter media timeout with 2:43 left. A late McKenney layup to get to 20 points upped the advantage to 59-29 entering the fourth.

JCU's starters kept the momentum going in the early stages of the fourth quarter before the subs took over, though Carmella Sowers notched the first basket of the quarter.

Kaylie McKenney tallied a career-best 22 points. Ava Ryncarz thrived with 19 points, shooting 8-of-13 while grabbing 12 rebounds. Graci Semptimphelter (15 points) and Bella Houillion (11 points) both hit double figures.
