Women’s Basketball Advances To NCAC Semifinal In Victory Against Oberlin College

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Blue Streaks are moving on in the conference tournament.

In an NCAC Quarterfinal matchup against Oberlin College, #10 John Carroll Women's Basketball returned to action inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center and defeated the Yeomen by a final score of 62-45 on Tuesday.

It was a slow start for JCU, but they were able to find their groove late in the second quarter to build upon their lead and find those scoring opportunities.

After a 12-5 lead in the first quarter, the Blue Streaks were able to get their offense going. A pair of Graci Semptimphelter shots would extend their lead to 12 points.

From there, JCU went on a 10-0 run and found their rhythm going into halftime. Carly Perusek and Nicci Finazzo made major impacts on the game, adding to the offensive run.

The team came out firing in the second half. An Ava Ryncarz layup would propel the Blue Streaks, followed by a pair of three pointers. Those plays from Ryncarz were key in their overall performance.

With Ryncarz's eight points, she was also able to record eight rebounds in her 26 minutes of play, which became a huge key in JCU's performance on the offensive side of the ball.

Beth Andrews and her squad were able to showcase their depth throughout the second half as well.

Adding herself to the scoring was Katie Puletti as she was able to score a corner three pointer early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 41-19.

The playmaking from the bench continued as a three-pointer from Bella Houillion would close out the third quarter on a high note for the Blue Streaks and would carry on into the fourth.

Looking at the total statistics, Graci Semptimphelter led the way for the Blue Streaks as she was able to tally 13 points on the night with four steals.

Nicci Finazzo had herself a night, recording 11 points and three rebounds.

It was another impressive win for John Carroll as they will now look to continue their momentum moving on to the next round of the 2026 NCAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
