Men's Basketball Strolls to Home Win over Kenyon on Alumni Day

The Blue Streaks fired out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – In front of plenty of former stars and alumni, John Carroll Men's Basketball put on a show in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, the Blue Streaks fired up an early lead and never looked back in a dominant victory over Kenyon College.

John Carroll advances to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play with the conquest with the 98-72 win.

From the opening tip-off, the Blue Streaks looked like the superior team. John Carroll's defense clamped down in the early going while finding open looks with ease. Kyle Irwin sank a pair of early triples to help start the party.

By the first media timeout, John Carroll enjoyed an 11-0 lead.  Kenyon finally got on the board at the 13:23 mark, but the damage was done. Mike Lamirand sank a triple and Luke Chicone enjoyed a traditional 3-point play to keep the momentum going.

Brandon Rose enjoyed a prolific opening half. The junior led the Blue Streaks in scoring at halftime with 15 points. Rose looked unstoppable for long stretches, with a hot hand that didn't cool off.

John Carroll fired up a strong start coming out of the break, starting with a Kasey Hunt bucket. Following the bonus media timeout, Mike Lamirand buried an open three, extending the lead to 62-39.

Rose and Chicone continued to score in bunches on pretty plays as the half continued, leaving jaws on the floor all the way. The two Blue Streaks seemed to take turns hitting awesome shots from in the paint and from downtown.

As the half wound down, JCU's reserves got some nice playing time. Lucas Wachter helped to finish off the scoring late.

Luke Chicone topped all scorers with 24 points, though Brandon Rose was not far behind with 23 points, a career best for the Gilmour Academy grad. Mike Lamirand also reached double figures with 11 points.
