Deren wins a weekly award for the first time in her career

CLEVELAND – A well-deserved honor has followed from Florida for John Carroll Women's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks enjoyed success in the annual trip to the Sunshine State, tallying a 3-1 team record.

One of the team's leaders, Evelyn Deren, is the North Coast Athletic Conference's Athlete of the Week for Women's Tennis. Deren starred at #2 singles and #1 doubles besides Maddie Kavenagh.

The junior started the week with a hard-earned victory against a foe from Adrian on Monday, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). Following a loss to a ranked foe from Mary Washington, Deren rebounded with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wartburg.

To conclude the week, Deren fought hard for a victory against a tough Cedarville opponent. The Northville, Michigan native gritted out a 7-5 win in the first set before rolling in the second, 6-0.

In doubles play, Deren and Kavenagh paired well for 6-2 wins over the top doubles teams from Adrian and Wartburg. The duo then wrapped up the trip with a victory over Cedarville's top squad. The two have a 5-2 record on the season at the top doubles position.

This is the first career weekly honor for Deren.

The John Carroll squad will have a busy weekend ahead, facing DePauw and Oberlin this weekend.
