Kavenagh and the Blue Streaks won a pair of conference matches over the weekend

CLEVELAND – Last week, John Carroll Women's Tennis was making waves in Florida. This week, the Blue Streaks are making headlines in Northeast Ohio.

Two North Coast Athletic Conference victories in as many days have netted a second straight weekly conference honor for John Carroll.

Maddie Kavenagh has garnered NCAC Athlete of the Week honors.

The Blue Streaks are on a roll thanks to Kavenagh, having won four in a row. On Saturday, John Carroll rolled past DePauw University at the Wembley Club, 6-1. On Sunday, the Blue & Gold kept rolling, besting Oberlin College indoors at Oberlin, 6-1.

Kavenagh corralled two wins in singles play as well as two victories in doubles play. Her partner at #1 doubles, Evelyn Deren, won the conference honor last week.

For starters, Kavenagh fired up a 7-5, 6-1 victory over DePauw on Saturday at the #1 singles spot. Atop the doubles order, the junior notched a 6-2 conquest.

For an encore, Kavenagh stormed for a 6-4, 6-2 conquest at the top of the singles lineup vs. Oberlin. In doubles play, the Akron native cruised alongside Deren, 6-1.

The Exercise Science major is in the midst of a strong campaign, playing a critical role in anchoring the Blue Streaks' top of the lineup against strong competition. This is her second career conference athlete of the week honor, as she won an accolade from the OAC as a freshman in March 2024.

Kavenagh and the Blue Streaks return to the courts on Saturday, heading to Otterbein University to stare down an old conference foe.
