Daugherty got the nod at 133 due to an injury

CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia. -- Heartbreak has turned to elation for Ty Daugherty, though the circumstances are not so joyous.

Due to an injury suffered by the second-placer at 133 pounds at the NCAA Region V Championships, a second Blue Streak has gotten the call to go to the big dance.

Ty Daugherty's ticket is punched to the NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships.

The senior experienced one of the toughest moments you can as a collegiate wrestler. Tied 1-1 heading into sudden victory with a spot at Nationals on the line, Daugherty allowed a takedown, and suddenly, his season appeared over as the fourth placer at Regionals.

But now, Daugherty gets new life.

The Avon native started off the year on a rough note, with a 3-7 record heading into new calendar year. But in 2026, Daugherty has wrestled excellently, firing up a 17-6 record since January 17. On the season, Daugherty sports a 20-13 record heading into Nationals.

The John Carroll community extends healing wishes to Ethan Spacht, the injured wrestler from North Central who will be unable to compete in the NCAA Championships. The JCU Wrestling community hopes that Spacht makes a full recovery to get the opportunity to wrestle at the 2027 NCAA Championships.
