Box Score 4 ORLANDO, Fla. – Safe to say that the John Carroll Women's Tennis team is enjoying the warmer air of Florida.
Following a pair of conference losses to start the spring, the Blue Streaks are in the win column.
John Carroll fired up a dominant win over Adrian, 6-1, on Monday. For an encore, JCU Mary Washington.Â
JCU: 6, Adrian: 1
The stage was set for a dominant win with a sweep of doubles play. Madi Davila made her season debut for JCU, combining with Zoe Nicholas for the most dominant win, 6-0, at #3. Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren rolled at the top spot, 6-2, while Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith held down the fort at #2, 6-1.
Deren needed three sets at #2 singles, but she outlasted her foe in a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 conquest. Kolb cruised at #3, 6-0, 6-2. Emme Smith rolled at the #4 spot (6-0, 6-1) and Davila showed no signs of rust at the #5 position with a 6-0, 6-0 win.Â
Lilianna Dixon notched her first collegiate victory at #6 singles. The first year opened with a 6-2 win in the first set before a 3-6 setback in the second. But in the tiebreaker, the Beaumont grad shined, easily winning, 10-2.
JCU: 0, Mary Washington: 6
The Blue Streaks faced a tough challenge against Mary Washington.
In both singles and doubles, the women couldn't get anything going throughout the matches.Â
The highlight was Madi Davila as she lost a close matchup by a final of 7-8.Â
JCU: 6, Wartburg: 1
The women found their rhythm defeating the Knights of Wartburg in their fourth tennis match of the week. The pairing of Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith shutout their doubles match by a final score of 6-0 in the second doubles match of the day.Â
Davila and Nicholas shined in their match as they took the victory 6-3 to contribute to the scoring for the Blue Streaks.Â
Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren continued to shine in their matchup, winning 6-2 in the first doubles match of the day.Â
The Blue Streaks were in a near sweep against the Knights. Dominating wins from Maddie Kavenagh, Evelyn Deren, and Madi Davila highlighted the singles matches, winning 6-0 in the first couple of sets.Â
Kolb and Smith took care of business, winning in their singles to propel the group.Â
Lilianna Dixon would lose in a close match at #6 against her opponent, taking one set out of the three. After losing 2-6 in the first set, Dixon was able to respond with a commanding 6-2 victory in the second, but wasn't able to come away with the win overall as she would lose in a close third set 8-10.Â
JCU: 5, Cedarville: 2
In the final matchup of the trip against Cedarville University, the Blue Streaks came away with another series of victorious performances. Kavenagh and Deren continued to shine in #1 Doubles, taking the first set by a final score of 4-2. Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith followed suit with a 6-3 win in #2 doubles for JCU.Â
Davila and Nicholas lost in the third doubles match of the day by a final score of 2-6, but ultimately, the Blue Streaks would come away with an advantage at the doubles.Â
It was a battle in the single matches as three out of the six went into tiebreakers.Â
Deren continued her winning ways, outlasting her opponent in two sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-0 in #2 singles.Â
Smith earned a comfortable victory in #4 singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-4 to help JCU gain those necessary points throughout the match.Â
Davila found herself in a third set, but earned the tiebreaker in a final score of 10-5 to claim the #5 singles position for the Blue Streaks.Â
Kolb also earned her tiebreaker in the #3 singles position to win 10-7 after losing in a close second set of action.Â

John Carroll will return to action on Wednesday, March 14th against DePauw University in their third conference matchup of the season at home. The match time is TBA.Â
