Women’s Lacrosse Loses In Close Matchup Against Kenyon College At Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Blue Streaks would suffer another tough loss in their fourth conference game of the year.

After a two hour lightning delay, JCU faced off against Kenyon College from Don Shula Stadium and lost by a final score of 14-13.

Costly turnovers played a huge effect in tonight's contest as the team wasn't able to find an answer late in the game to possibly send the game to extra time.

It was a defensive battle early to start out the game. Kenyon would open up the scoring to go up 2-0, but the Blue Streaks would respond with two goals of their own from both Abby Cassidy and Mary Grace Godleski

Low scoring would result in more defensive plays that played a huge role on both sides.

The second period was back and forth as both teams traded several goals.

JCU would come out of the gate in the second with a goal scored by Kathleen Cagnmey with a stellar assist from Riley Knapp to take their first lead of the game, but the Owls responded with a quick goal to tie the game.

Both teams traded numerous turnovers, as well as different scoring opportunities to make the score tight going into halftime.

Early in the third period, a costly green card penalty from JCU would allow the Owls to regain their lead and build up their offense.

Kenyon capitalized on their turnovers, which resulted in extending their lead by three goals; their largest lead of the night.

A free position goal from Kenzie Krom would allow the Blue Streaks to end the third period on a high note, cutting their deficit to two.

That momentum shifted for John Carroll as Mary Grace Godleski tallied on a couple of more goals to earn a total of five and help JCU get within reach of getting back the lead.

After a Kenyon goal that would allow them to get their lead back to two goals, Anna Spitzer provided hope for the Blue & Gold to cut Kenyon's lead back to one goal with an assist from Mea Musillo

A quick draw control won by JCU would allow Mea Musillo to go down the field and tie the game at 13, but a turnover resulted in Ashley Quinn from Kenyon to take the lead with 50 seconds remaining.

The Blue Streaks fought till the very end, but it wasn't enough as they would falter in a close and hard fought game with the Owls.

They will now look to regroup and bounce back with only three games left in the 2026 season.
