The Blue Streaks excelled at the historic course at the Fred Kravetz Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The John Carroll Men's Golf team got a golden opportunity this weekend and took advantage.

The Blue Streaks got the chance to play at the prestigious Oak Hill Country Club, a course dating back to 1901 designed by Donald Ross. Located in Rochester, the east course has served as host for many major championships including the 2023 PGA Championships. JCU and the participating teams played on the west course on Saturday after playing at Locust Hill Country Club on Friday.

Daniel Donahue and Co. certainly enjoyed the opportunity. At the Fred Kravetz Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester, the Blue Streaks tied for first with #16 Rochester with a team line of 286-283-569, and took home the team trophy by virtue of a fifth-man tiebreaker.

RESULTS

As Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski noted, it was a complete team effort. Donahue's record on Friday and Wade Boyle's fantastic round on Saturday.

Donahue roared on the first day, breaking a Kravetz Invitational single-round record with a 66 (-6), quite the feat. The Pittsburgh native showcased outstanding consistency, avoiding any bogeys while tallying three birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine.
For his encore, Donahue notched a 75, good enough to snag second in a packed field.

Wade Boyle opened things up on Friday with a 75, three-over-par. The junior birdied a pair of Par 4 holes on the first day. The Greensburg, Pennsylvania native did well down the back nine to fire up the leaderboard, aided by birdies on Holes 11, 12, and 15. Boyle closed out with a 67 (-3), leaping all the way to third place with an even score for the weekend.

Austin Malley also did exceptionally well for JCU. The junior tied for second on the opening day with a mark of 70 (-2). One o the top highlights for the Venetia, Pennsylvania native was an eagle on a 459-yard Par 5 on No. 8. On the second day, Malley got off to a nice start with back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and 8. He finished out with a 73, securing fifth place.

London Hoyser enjoyed the chance to play just down the road from his home of Pittsford. The junior kicked things off on Friday with a mark of 75 (+3). Two birdies in the first nine holes got him going. In Round 2, the Rochester's own played mistake free on the back nine with an exellent 33, tallying up a 71 (+1) by the end of the day. For the weekend, he took 12th.

Justy Von Lehmden tied with Hoyser on the opening day, as the star hit a 75. His first nine holes on Friday were his best, spotlighted by a trio of birdies. On Saturday, the Saint John's Jesuit grad carded a very solid 72, just a couple above par, good for a tie for 14th place.

Max Devins played as an individual in the tournament. The sophomore from Aurora got off on the right foot on Friday. The Aurora native carded a one-under-par mark of 71. On Saturday, Devins carded a 76 for JCU, a solid finish good enough for a +5 for the tournament and a tie with Justy.
