Blue Streaks Ranked #16 in Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings, Tops in NCAC

John Carroll enjoyed a strong winter season, scoring points in five sports

CLEVELAND - John Carroll Athletics continues to rank among the best schools in NCAA Division III.

After a strong winter campaign, John Carroll is ranked at 16th in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division III Standings. 

John Carroll is at the top of its peers in the standings. The Blue Streaks snagged the top spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference, leading with 432.75 points, 77.75 points higher than the next NCAC school, which is Denison University in 26th. 

Historically speaking, the Blue & Gold tallied 39th in 2025, 37th in 2024, 28th in 2023, and 23rd in 2022. Prior to the pandemic, JCU tabbed 31st in 2018-19. The Blue Streaks also finished T-40th in 1997-98, 36th in 2000-01, 33rd in 2001-02, 41st in 2003-04 and 48th in 2017-18.

After securing 172.50 points in the fall, JCU's winter sports added an impressive 260.25 points to the total.

Men's Indoor Track and Field topped the winter sports with a lead effort of 66.8 points. The Blue Streaks secured their fifth top 10 finish, led by senior Basheer Alrahami, who earned his second consecutive Elite 90 Award (which has never been done before in Division III Track and Field). The Westlake native tabbed 2 All-American accolades in the 800 meter run and the men's 4x400 meter relay. Four more Blue Streaks earned All-American titles for Indoor Track and Field. Sam Su with the mile, Tyler Gast with the 400 meter dash and 4x400 meter relay, Tony Tirado with the 4x400 meter relay, and Dustin Horner with the 4x400 meter relay.

Women's Basketball tallied 64 points courtesy of making it to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Head Coach Beth Andrews steered the team to NCAC Tournament Runners-Up and the first NCAA postseason berth since 2022. Once in the NCAA postseason, JCU impressed with wins against The College of New Jersey and #21 SUNY New Paltz, eventually succumbing to the eventual NCAA Champions, Denison. 

Men's Basketball tabbed 50 points for John Carroll. JCU made it to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row, after dominating in the NCAC Tournament and bringing back a tournament trophy to University Heights. The Blue Streaks made it to the Round of 32 after defeating Grinnell College, eventually conceding to #8 Illinois Wesleyan. 

Women's Indoor Track and Field contributed 44.5 points for the JCU effort. Sophomore Dakota Houston did the heavy lifting for the Blue Streaks with a pair of All-American accolades in the 60 Meter dash and the 200 Meter dash. 

Men's Swimming and Diving provided 35 points to the JCU ledger. Bart Kubis earned two All-American accolades at the NCAA Championships in 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke, receiving his first career First Team All-American distinction. Cameron Cook followed shortly behind, receiving his first ever Second Team All-American honor in 200 Freestyle.

The Learfield Directors' Cup is a nationwide competition in which points are awarded based on each institution's finish in the NCAA Championships.  The Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
