Baseball Lose Twice at DePauw in a Tough Day in Indiana

The Blue Streaks drop to 6-6 in NCAC play with four conference games left

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The first trip to DePauw University since 1989 did not go as planned for John Carroll Baseball.

The Blue Streaks lost experienced a sweep at the hands of the Tigers, 16-6 and 8-3.

With the pair of losses, JCU drops to 6-6 in North Coast Athletic Conference play entering the final week of the regular season. Even still, JCU is in contention for the conference tournament.

Game 1
You couldn't have asked for a better start to the game for the Clevelanders.

A Konner Hauck single started the scoring in the second inning before the Blue Streaks struck a body blow. Ethan Glossa blasted a grand slam over the wall in left field for a 5-0 JCU lead.

Through 3 innings, Frank Freeman cruised on the bump. But in the fourth, the Tigers broke through in a major way.

DePauw roared for 8 runs in the fourth inning, as the Tigers took the lead with a grand slam, which completely changed the ballgame. The bullpen finally ended the damage at 8-5. The Tigers kept upping the advantage, tagging on two more runs in the fifth.

JCU finally got back on the board in the eighth with a Keaton Phillips RBI single. But the Tigers responded in kind with five runs in the bottom of the frame, ending it with a 16-6 run rule victory.

Game 2
The Tigers quickly jumped on the Blue Streaks in the second game, notching 3 runs in the first inning and 2 runs in the second, forcing JCU's bullpen to come into action in the first inning.

A solo Glossa homer got JCU on the board in the third, but DePauw dominated JCU's bats overall in the early going.

DePauw kept on rolling with three runs in the fifth. Meanwhile, JCU managed to scratch across a run apiece in the seventh and the ninth, but not enough to mount a comeback.

Next Up
The Blue Streaks have an important week ahead, beginning with a home NCAC doubleheader vs. The College of Wooster on Tuesday.
