Dylan Murlin Notches First NCAC Athlete of the Week Honor

The sophomore clinched the first NCAC win for JCU Men's Tennis

CLEVELAND – A dramatic victory not only clinched a match, but a weekly accolade for Dylan Murlin.

The sophomore provided the critical victory in a 4-3 triumph for John Carroll Men's Tennis, the first North Coast Athletic Conference conquest for the program.

Fittingly, Dylan Murlin is the NCAC Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.

The sophomore snagged a doubles win alongside Cavan Boutillette at #3 doubles to start off the match vs. Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday at The Wembley Club in Chagrin Falls. It was a match that required a tiebreaker, but the JCU duo emerged with a 7-6 (8-6) win, getting the W by the minimum in the extra time.

Murlin's #5 singles bout proved to be a classic. The Hilliard, Ohio native opened with a 6-3 victory in the first set before his foe took the second set, 7-5.

The third set proved to be no less thrilling. The challengers traded blows, with OWU's man sneaking ahead, 6-5. Murlin fended him off and forced a tiebreaker. From the start of the tiebreaker, the Hilliard Davidson grad played like the aggressor, firing out and taking an early lead. Never looking back, Murlin roared as he won the tiebreaker, 7-2.

Murlin was mobbed by his teammates celebrating the clinching of the team's first NCAC victory. A few days later, the former JCU Men's Soccer goalie stands as the second NCAC Athlete of the Week for JCU Men's Tennis.

Murlin and the Blue Streaks will return to action on Saturday, set to host #5 Denison University.
