BROCKPORT, N.Y. – On the road for the inaugural game in program history, John Carroll Field Hockey enjoyed a festive first.

But SUNY Brockport played the spoiler, handing the Blue Streaks a 3-1 defeat. 

On a beautiful sunny afternoon in Western New York, the Blue Streaks came out ready to prove exactly what this new team is capable of. Despite a historic first goal for Mary Wymard, the Golden Eagles emerged with the win. 

Brockport came out hot, as the hosts got on the board at the 4:09 mark. The Golden Eagles continued that momentum two minutes later when they tallied another point, giving them a 2-0 lead over the Streaks. 

The first quarter was foul-heavy, with the Golden Eagles racking up 22 fouls. The Streaks were unable to capitalize on these, ending the quarter trailing the Golden Eagles by two. 

The Streaks had a hard time slowing the Golden Eagles down going into the second quarter. With just seconds left in the half, Brockport was able to lay another one on the board, increasing their lead to 3-0 over the Blue Streaks. 

The slow start in the first half from the Streaks was nowhere to be found in the second. Mary Wymard etched her name into program history, tallying JCU's first-ever program goal with an assist from Francessca Rao off of a penalty corner. 

Other key players like Kierra Maxie and Sophia Schultheis had six shots each on the day, showing promise for future games.

The goalies were able to stand strong throughout the game, with Elison Hilgendorf racking up two saves and Ava Brunce tallying four.

Although the Blue Streaks came out short in the end, the team was able to put together a solid and promising program debut, giving the Streaks plenty to build on as the season unfolds.
