Men's Soccer Roars for Six Goals in Great Home Victory over Lancaster Bible

The Blue Streaks commemorated Morgan's Message Night and Deki Mladenovic's birthday

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Weather forced a postponement a day, but John Carroll Men's Soccer took care of business all the same.

On Head Coach Dejan Mladenovic's birthday and Morgan's Message Night, the Blue Streaks played a fantastic match, playing hard and with impressive cohesion.

On a nice Thursday night at Don Shula Stadium, the Blue Streaks dominated in a 6-1 offensive onslaught, the most goals scored by JCU since a 7-0 win over Heidelberg in 2024.

"Tonight, we did what we needed to do," said Mladenovic. "We definitely needed that in terms of our journey with this young team. It was nice to see us come out focused, do what we needed to do, and break the dam that's been holding us up the last couple weeks. It's good to see the ball hit the back of the net and build some confidence, but we know we still have a lot to work to do and a long way to go."

Patrick Bohan got a quick shot on goal in the third minute with a nice shot right at the goalie up the left flank. Rafa De La Barrera won a 50/50 ball and put a shot on goal in the sixth minute, which was turned away.

In the 18th minute, the Blue Streaks broke through. Patrick Bohan won a ball against a couple Chargers on the far sideline. After fighting hard to secure possession, the junior played a give and go with Gabe Richer. The Michigander tapped the ball forward a couple touches before running out of room. On a marvelous play, the junior sent a pass back from the goal line while falling down. Ryan Cvitkovik wound up with his right foot and launched a rocket for JCU's first goal and the first goal of the rookie's collegiate career.

The Blue Streaks continued to be aggressive even after scoring, albeit a bit overeager. JCU was called for a yellow on an aggressive shot saved by the Chargers goalie who came out of his crease to stop it. The Chargers responded with a shot in the 33rd minute, a promising low opportunity at the right post, saved by Michael Antry. The hosts continued to be assertive as the half elapsed, including on a beautiful centering pass that Dylan Halm just tapped wide.

The Blue Streaks were rewarded in the 42nd minute for the fluid, aggressive style of play demonstrated all half. Zalan Onodi charged up from his left back spot, beating a defender. The Saint Ignatius grad sent a gorgeous through ball to Jordan West, who did the rest. The first year slotted it home low left for a nice goal, his collegiate first.

JCU's 2-0 lead stood through the end of the half as the Blue Streaks felt full in control.

In the 60th minute, the Blue Streaks furthered the lead. On a nice play up the left side, Harley Forkins tapped a pass forward to Richer. The sophomore spun and quickly right-footed a beauty to beat the goalie for the 3-0 lead. The tally marked the first of Richer's JCU career.

John Carroll continued the onslaught just a couple minutes later. Dante Rajaie caused a turnover in the Chargers end and wasted no time in creating some magic. The sophomore set up Harley Forkins on a centering pass. After settling it, Forkins blasted a ball off the woodwork and into the net in the 62nd minute.

Just a couple minutes later, the Chargers managed to break the shutout. But Dylan Halm provided the response. Forkins hit a fantastic pass ahead and Halm did the rest, firing home a wonderful goal.

The Blue Streaks didn't stop there, though. Soon after a throw-in, the ball bounced ahead for Matt Hribar. The junior roared for his second career goal.

From start to finish, the Blue Streaks played a very fluid style, where the ball flowed well and the players on the pitch showcased excellent trust in one another.

"We're really training them to move the ball," said Mladenovic. "We have really talented players who have skill. Now that they're getting comfortable with each other and understand each other and tendencies, you're seeing it start to come together a little bit more."
