Women's Soccer Works for Road Tie at Trine

The Blue Streaks will carry a 2-2-2 record heading into the home opener

ANGOLA, Ind. – The start of the season has been road heavy for John Carroll Women's Soccer.

Six road games to start the year, to be exact. In the final one before the home opener, the Blue Streaks exacted a draw at Trine University.

The Blue Streaks found a way to get a draw in a 1-1 match featuring a second-half equalizer. JCU heads home from the 3-hour roadtrip with a 2-2-2 record on the season. 

Madison Skeese tabbed a couple of early saves to keep the game level. In the 23rd minute, the Blue Streaks enjoyed the best chance of the half, as Molly Brown settled an overhead pass and fired a hard shot that the keeper ate up.

In the 32nd minute, the hosts managed to get ahead. Trine put pressure on John Carroll with a solid possession. The Blue Streaks tried repeatedly to clear but were unable to get the ball out of harm's way. Eventually the ball found its way to the near post. A cross crease pass found the foot of Erin Scully, who tapped it in with ease on the one-timer. 

The Blue Streaks and Thunder traded opportunities in the opening stages of the second half. In the 58th minute, the visitors' prodding led to a Trine mistake.

As JCU looked to build, a poor clearance by a Trine defender bounded backwards into the crease. Sensing blood in the water, a savvy Brooke Berkowitz charged after the ball. The sophomore beat the goalie and tapped the ball into the net for the critical tying tally. 

Quickly after the goal, the Thunder tested Skeese, putting a pair of shots on net. Andrea Quintero Delgado sent a shot off the woodwork in the 68th and 89th minutes, and JCU got a couple more solid chances, but nothing came of it.

Skeese made 8 saves on the night. Trine outshot JCU narrowly, 17-15, and 9-5 in terms of shots on goal.

The Blue Streaks will at last make the home debut, hosting Penn State Behrend on Saturday at 11:05 am at Don Shula Stadium, live on Rock Entertainment Sports Network.
