The Streaks Fall to the Saints in a Wednesday Afternoon Match

Penalty corners and fouls hold the Streaks back from getting the victory over D'Youville

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – As John Carroll took on their first game ever against a Division II school, the results did not end in the Streaks' favor.

D'Youville prevailed with a 3-2 victory over the Streaks after a hard-fought battle from both sides.

The Streaks came out hot, with a hard shot from Kierra Maxie who was able to find the back of the cage just 1- minute into the game. D'Youville quickly answered and tallied their first goal 4- minutes into the game. It was an even battle throughout the first quarter with each time recording 3 shots.

As the afternoon progressed, the Streaks seemed to of lost momentum. The second quarter was a defensive battle for John Carroll, with D'Youville possessing the ball for the majority of the quarter.

The Streaks were only able to get one shot off on the quarter, trailing the Saint's shots by 2. It was a tied game going into the half.

Multiple changes were made going into the second half. Goalkeeper Ava Brunce started the third quarter for the Streaks. The Streaks also got most of their bench out on the field throughout the quarter.

The Streaks might have come out hot in the first half, however, the Saints began to take over. Just 4 minutes into the half the Saints got themselves another point on the board, giving them the 2-1 lead.

Not even 3 minutes later the Saints were able to find the back of the cage once again. It was now a 3-1 game. It didn't help that the Streaks gave the Saints 5 penalty quarters throughout the quarter, while receiving none themselves.

It seemed like that was how the quarter was going to end for John Carroll. Until Sophia Schultheis nailed one home with help from Mara Sidolski with 50 seconds left in the third making it a one point game.

A one goal game going into the fourth quarter made way for a competitive 15- minutes… or so we thought. The Streaks seemed to of lost momentum and energy during the first bit of the quarter.

By the end of the quarter, multiple opportunities were given to the Streaks, however, they were unable to capitalize.

The Saints walked away with the 3-2 victory over the Streaks.

John Carroll's goalies had a solid day in net. Ava Brunce had a fantastic 15 minutes in the cage, with 7 saves, and Ellison Hildengrof recorded 6 saves on the day.

Carroll showed improvement and grit throughout the game.

But, once again, the fouls are what seem to be holding the Streaks back. Eight penalty corners were given to the Saints in the second half, with the Streaks only receiving one. John Carroll tallied 2 green cards throughout the game to the Saints 0. The Streaks were outshot 18-8 on the afternoon.
