Volleyball Sweeps Allegheny on Morgan's Message Night at Home

The Blue Streaks put on a nice show in front of a good home crowd

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On a warm evening in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, John Carroll Volleyball posted a strong performance.

On a night dedicated to mental health awareness through Morgan's Message, the Blue Streaks looked joyful in getting a third straight victory.

John Carroll picked up a 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 victory on Tuesday evening at home.

With Tess Murray at the service line, JCU began to find some momentum early in the match, strolling to a 12-6 lead. Allegheny called a timeout in response, but while the Gators trimmed the deficit, the hosts showed good communication. JCU did allow a mini-run, struggling in serve-receive, until a Khloe Trivoli kill ended a lengthy point to propel JCU ahead, 20-1. That prompted another Gators timeout, and Allegheny found some juice. But a thunderous Kallan Hrics kill closed it out for JCU with a 5-1 run.

Mary Kate Sheehan heated up to start the second set with a pair of great kills. The teams traded points, as neither team could muster much of a run. John Carroll started to gain traction and built a modest 19-15 advantage, leading to an Allegheny timeout. The Gators nearly erased the deficit twice, but each time the visitors got within a point, Williams provided a key kill. JCU wrapped it up late, 25-21.

The Blue Streaks threatened to run away with the third set, grabbing an early 6-3 advantage. That is until Allegheny halted the momentum with a quick timeout. Midway through the set, JCU went on a nice 3-0 run to up the lead to 17-12. Following an Allegheny timeout, the Gators stopped the bleeding for a moment but could not halt the multi-faceted JCU attack. JCU finished off the victory with a 25-18 win.

Sheehan and Williams both enjoyed good days up front, with 8 kills apiece. Tess Murray topped the team with 19 assists, followed by Calylynn Hovan with 11. Olivia Mogyordy made some nice saves on defense, with a team-high 16 digs, while Murray tabbed 10.

As a team, the Blue Streaks excelled offensively with a .297 attack percentage.
