Box Score

John Carroll toppled both the Otterbein Cardinals and the century mark in posting a 101-65 victory Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Varsity Center to start the second half of the Ohio Athletic Conference schedule.

The victory keeps John Carroll in a second place tie with Wilmington in the OAC standings, one game behind Capital.

Otterbein came out upset-minded as the Cardinals controlled the early pace. Cory Ratai's free throw with 16:07 gave the visitors an 8-7 lead.

But after the opening four minutes, John Carroll would dominate the proceedings from that point on. The Blue Streaks would go on an 18-3 run that was capped by a Tommy Lavelle lay-up with 8:49 remaining in the opening half.

The Cardinals trimmed the deficit to 11 points with 7:39 showing on the clock on a pair of free throws by Dan Kessler, but another John Carroll run -- this time a 21-6 burst -- closed the half and put the home team ahead 48-22 heading to the locker room.

John Carroll's lead never dipped below 21 points for the remainder of the contest.

Rudy Kirbus scored 14 and Maurice Haynes added 13 for John Carroll (12-4, 8-2 OAC), which won its eighth consecutive game. The Blue Streaks had 15 players score at least two points, and shot 36-76 (.474) from the floor, including 12-28 (.429) from three-point range.

The eight wins are the most by a John Carroll team since the 2004-05 team opened that season by winning the first 13 games en route to the OAC Championship and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

Otterbein (3-14, 1-9 OAC) was led by a game-high 15 points from Brian Pollock and 12 from Steve Isaac. The Cardinals were forced into 28 turnovers.
