Electric Start By Heidelberg Sets Tone For JCU Volleyball Setback

An electric start by Heidelberg set the tone at the DeCarlo Varsity Center Tuesday evening, as John Carroll fell in three straight games to its nationally ranked Ohio Athletic Conference rival.

Heidelberg, ranked #17 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, scored 32 of the first 44 points of the match en route to a 25-10, 25-18, 25-17 victory.

After the Blue Streaks shook off its rough first game, JCU was much more competitive in the final two games. In the second game, a Kerry Fox (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township)kill pulled John Carroll to within 12-11, but from that juncture, the Streaks were unable to string together back-to-back points the remainder of the set.

In the third game, John Carroll and Heidelberg were tied 14-14, but the visitors would ratle off 11 of the final 14 points to close out the match.

Heidelberg finished the night with 44 kills compared to 19 for John Carroll. MaryEileen Dalton (Chicago, IL, St. Ignatius Prep) and Laura Sudo (Pittsburgh, PA, North Allegheny) each had six kills for JCU. 

With the win, Heidelberg improved to 22-4 overall and 7-0 in the OAC, while John Carroll slips to 10-15 overall and 2-4 in league play.
